Summer’s Story

Summer is a young mare with a gentle heart who deserves a second chance at life.

At only about 1.5–2 years old, Summer was saved from a kill pen, unsure of the world and the people in it. Since arriving at Broken to Brave Horse Sanctuary, she has begun learning that kindness and patience exist — and that she is safe.

Summer has been started on halter breaking and is making progress, but she is still very much a baby emotionally and mentally. She needs someone who understands that trust takes time and that healing can’t be rushed. While she enjoys human connection, new experiences can still feel overwhelming to her.

One area she’s still working through is trailer loading. We’ve started the process with her, but she will need a patient, consistent person she can trust to continue building her confidence.

Despite her past, Summer shows her sweetness every day. She loves cookies, gentle pets, and quiet reassurance, and when she relaxes, her soft personality really shines. She is also absolutely gorgeous, with the kind of presence that makes you stop and look twice.

Summer isn’t looking for a perfect home — she’s looking for a patient and kind one. Someone willing to go slow, celebrate small wins, and help her grow into the confident horse she’s meant to be.

For the right person, Summer will be incredibly rewarding — the kind of horse whose trust feels like a true gift.

*Fun fact*

Summer and Noodle are extremely bonded and would love to find a new home together.

Eugene

Eugene

Eugene is living proof of how quickly a life can change when someone chooses to care.

This handsome young colt was pulled from a kill pen with only minutes to spare, given a second chance just in time. What could have been the end of his story instead became the beginning of a new one at Broken to Brave Horse Sanctuary.

At around 2 years old, Eugene is already showing what an incredible partner he’s going to become. He has been started on halter breaking and training, and in just a short time, he has proven himself to be a fast learner who truly wants to please. He approaches new experiences with curiosity and heart, trying his best to understand what’s being asked of him.

Eugene is scheduled to be gelded on the 23rd, and once he has recovered, he will be ready to head to his forever home. This will give his adopter a wonderful opportunity to continue his training while he’s still young and eager to learn.

And then there’s his presence — Eugene is thick, strong, and absolutely stunning, the kind of horse that turns heads without even trying. But underneath that handsome exterior is a young horse who simply needed someone to believe he was worth saving.

Like any young horse, Eugene will continue to benefit from consistency, patience, and guidance, but his willing personality makes him incredibly rewarding to work with.

Eugene didn’t just survive — he got his second chance. Now he’s ready to find the person who will help him grow into everything he’s meant to be.

Noodle

Noodle

Noodle’s Story

Noodle’s life began with loss — but also with a second chance.

When Noodle was rescued from a kill pen at just 3 months old, he had already been stripped away from his mama far too soon. Confused, vulnerable, and still very much a baby, he came into safety alongside Summer, and the two quickly formed a deep bond that helped them both begin to heal.

Now about 6 months old, Noodle is growing into the sweetest, fluffiest little boy you could imagine. He loves cookies, attention, and gentle affection, and when he understands what’s being asked of him, he is truly a little saint. But he is still a baby — and babies forget. He needs consistency, patience, and someone with the time to help him learn and grow.

Noodle is very much a blank slate, ready to become whatever his future partner guides him to be. One thing we know for sure — he is going to be VERY tall, so his adopter should be prepared for a big horse in the future.

Despite his rough start, Noodle remains incredibly loving and trusting. He just needs someone willing to continue showing him the kindness he deserved from the very beginning.

For the right home, Noodle won’t just grow into a beautiful horse — he’ll grow into a lifelong partner.

Sanctuary Horses (lifers)

Sanctuary horses are the ones who can't be safely re-homed but still deserve a lifetime of care, dignity, and love. Some come to us with permanent injuries, medical issues, or emotional trauma that makes them unsuitable for adoption.

Gypsy- Gypsy has a large history of abuse. She is still working through that trauma. She will remain with us as long as she needs- even if that's forever...

Scooter

Scooter- Scooter is an older mare whose owner and forever person passed away. Scooter has special care needs to remain comfortable. Scooter will remain at our rescue as long as she needs.

Walker-Walker is an older gelding who was dumped at an auction after his owner realized he had severe dental disease. He was in excruciating pain and had been for a long time. He was also emaciated due to the pain affecting his ability to eat. He will remain at our rescue for the rest of his life.

Poppy- Poppy was a kid's lesson horse. After she was no longer useful she was neglected and then dumped at a kill pen to die. She is one of the most severe starvation cases we have ever received. Poppy is around 30 years old. She will be spoiled and loved for the rest of her life with us.
